Signum Quartett - Projects

Music is all about communicating. Nowadays so much of our communication takes place on social media, and we would like to see musical communication take place here as well: We invite composers of all ages and abilities to tweet us a short quartet of 140 notes or less - a #quartweet!

Following in the footsteps of Bach, Webern and Kurtág, who were all unwitting quartweeters, there will be #quartweets by Bruno Mantovani, Sebastian Currier, Steve Mackey, Sarah Kirkland Snider and many more. Matthijs van Dijk has already written #quartweet no. 1 titled “Eine kleine Dubstep”. The project, founded by the Signum Quartet, will launch at a residency in Princeton in partnership with the Princeton Symphony Orchestra and the Institute for Advanced Studies in October 2015. Further partnerships with Cardiff University and Rob Fokkens as well as the Munich Hochschule and Konstantia Gourzi will follow: workshops with student composers at universities and conservatoires as well as primary and secondary schools will be an essential part of the #quartweet project.

#quartweets will be included in concerts by the Signum Quartet and broadcast regularly on Periscope and YouTube.
