The Vienna Piano Trio has been performing regularly in virtually every major music centre in Europe, the United States, Australia and the Far East for more than 25 years. The Trio was founded in 1988 and after early extensive studies with highly renowned musicians paved its way to an international career. Its most important teachers and mentors include Isaac Stern, Ralph Kirschbaum and Joseph Kalichstein as well as the members of the Trio di Trieste, the Beaux Arts Trio, the Guarneri Quartet and the LaSalle Quartet.

The Vienna Piano Trio frequently performs at music festivals such as the Festival Aix-en-Provence, Schubertiade, Mozartwoche Salzburg, Beethovenfest Bonn, Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, Rheingau Musik Festival and Kuhmo (Finland). In addition, the group tours worldwide, performing in London, Paris, Amsterdam, New York, Tokyo, Buenos Aires, Bogota, Mexico City, Toronto, Montreal, Sydney, Brussels, Barcelona and Berlin.

From 1997 to 2006 the Vienna Piano Trio held its own annual series of concerts as part of the Vienna Musikverein’s “Jeunesse Musicale”. Since 2006/2007 the ensemble has been resident at the Vienna Konzerthaus where it performs four concerts each season in the Mozartsaal. In the season 2011/12 the piano trio has been the Ensemble in Residence of the Londoner Wigmore Hall.

The Trio has performed Beethoven’s Triple Concerto with the Brussels Philharmonic, English Chamber Orchestra, Orchestre Metropolitain de Montréal, with the Munich Chamber Orchestra and with the Tonkünstler-Orchester under the baton of Simone Young at the prestigious Grafenegg-Festival.

After an concerts with Mark Padmore at the Konzerthaus Vienna and at the Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspiele the trio will tour again with the tenor, performing among others in Amsterdam and Heidelberg. Further partners will be Andreas and Daniel Ottensamer.

The Trio’s discography includes works by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Dvorák, Shostakovich and Schnittke (Nimbus Records). Since 2002 the Trio has been recording a large number of CDs for MDG (Musikproduktion Dabringhaus & Grimm). These recordings have earned the highest acclaim as well as several awards. The ensemble is currently recording the complete piano trios by Johannes Brahms for MDG. The first and second volumes have already been released (ECHO-Klassik Award 2017). A recording of trios by Heinrich von Herzogenberg has been highly acclaimed by the press.

In addition to its concert appearances the ensemble has given master classes at the Wigmore Hall and Royal College of Music in London, Sydney’s Conservatory of Music, the University of Wellington (New Zealand) as well as in Finland, France and the USA.

David McCarroll plays a violin by A. & G. Gagliano from 1761; Matthias Gredler plays on a Violoncello by J. B. Guadagnini from 1752.

From the 2018/19 season on, cellist Clemens Hagen will join the trio replacing Matthias Gredler.
