Tedi Papavrami

Tedi Papavrami’s lyrical softness and vocal tone create expressive interpretations that are second to none. And through his curiosity, his intellectual and literary aspirations, he consistently overcomes musical boundaries.

Born in Albania, the child prodigy Tedi Papavrami fled to Paris and studied with Pierre Amoyal. Early on he performed on all international stages with Martha Argerich, Mischa Maisky, Gary Hofmann, Maria Joao Pires and Viktoria Mullova, with whom he also recorded a Prokofiev CD. Further CDs with works by Bach, Ysaÿe, Bartók and Paganini are available on various labels. Most recently, he released the sonatas by Franck and Fauré together with Nelson Goerner on the alpha classics label, as well as all Beethoven sonatas with François-Frédéric Guy on the French record label Aparte.

Reviews

Tedi Papavrami, whilst not attempting to sound like Sarasate, adopts something of his graceful manner; his alert, lively approach is just right for conveying the music’s inventive, often improvisatory character. He makes the Rondo into something truly capricious, with even the tender moments and the rhetorical gestures retaining a playful air. The Concerto, too, gets an extravert performance; each episode vividly characterised, yet without excessive intensity. Played like this, one can imagine it as a ballet score accompanying a fairyland scenario. Gramophone | CD Saint-Saens | Charlotte Smith
